Wedding Campground

Goal: pick a campground close to the road.  Okaw valley campground
Accomplished, it's 1 block off.  Surprise it's on a lake, with a pool and..... as we pull ... a wedding!  The sign on the door says to self register as their daughter was getting married today.
We set up camp at alakefront site. It's picture perfect.  Aaron and I head to the pool while Josh gets our ravioli from that yummy market in CT a salad from Wawa  ready for dinner.
Eat (yum) catch fireflies and off to bed.  For us that is... after our dinner and theirs the wedding party reappeared for the reception at the campground.  As we slept,  the bride, groom and their families danced to a band 'till 3am.
Hit the road planning on making some miles only to be stymied by a road sign....
Vandalia, Lincoln Historic Site.  So off we head to see the state capital of Illinois from 1819 until 1839.  It was a great museum.
Exciting  to walk in Lincoln's actual footsteps and to see the chamber where the junior representative made his first public statement denouncing slavery.
Back on the road, over the Mississippi and back and forth over the Missouri River.  Through St. Louis, past the arch... pit stop at Chipotle for a late lunch for the best road tripper EVER, Aaron!
Finally getting off rt 70 and taking the road less travelled. We took rt 36.
Wow was it worth is and boy did we fall in love with Kansas.  Huge farms, tiny crossroads towns with everything you could need.
Each little crossroad town had gas, food, a town park and historical society.  We finally gave in and stopped in Marysville to see a Pony Express Station.
Off again to the next crossroads for a healthy dinner at Sonic of slushies and tater tots:)
Back on the road to watch the corn and soybeans grow, the wheat get harvested and the cows eat.  Beautiful country!

  1. Hey Aaron in the biography of the Wright Brothers there is a picture of each of the brothers lying in the plane just like you did!
